Good to learn/frightening to learn. I love these write ups -- you've got me searching for this.Audrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07511122937603890352noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5918892767071973314.post-46415405349962042512012-01-30T20:55:09.815-05:002012-01-30T20:55:09.815-05:00Gosh … you are really good at doing these write-up...Gosh … you are really good at doing these write-ups. I'm so impressed. Some of the same passages resonated with me … and it is so easy to see how our society today reflects the one Zinn describes in this chapter. Makes you feel a bit saddened by that.Jennershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08044537551139633301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5918892767071973314.post-1729809758050065162012-01-30T19:38:57.825-05:002012-01-30T19:38:57.825-05:00When I was a kid my dad said to me, "When the...When I was a kid my dad said to me, "When they say anyone can be President? It's a lie. You have to be rich." I was reminded of that often as I read this chapter. Those with money were able to dictate the rules...and for the most part, they still do.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5918892767071973314.post-5126172059050136342012-01-30T14:04:25.434-05:002012-01-30T14:04:25.434-05:00I was kind of stunned into silence when I read the...I was kind of stunned into silence when I read the bits about the top 1% of the population having most of the wealth. How eerie that we are raving about the exact same thing so many hundreds of years later. Makes me more worried about the future - a great chapter this week and yes, the pacing is perfect.Brookehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13474997114568231162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5918892767071973314.post-91946879217502428282012-01-30T13:48:33.666-05:002012-01-30T13:48:33.666-05:00I also found that today's situations were eeri...I also found that today's situations were eerily similar to those found on the page, and it was very bothersome to me that so much of the wealth and power were given to such a small group of people. I was also struck by the nefarious games that the privileged played to keep the the poor under control and to stop them from rebelling. This book has been so enlightening for me, but also infuriating. There are so many misconceptions about this country, and Zinn is exposing all of them, one by one. It's sad to see that as much as some things have changed, a lot has stayed the same.Zibileehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07443338685890187334noreply@blogger.com
