Announcing the 2011 Indie Lit Award shortlists
The 2011 Indie Lit Award fiction shortlist:
Dance Lessons by Aine Greaney
Cross Currents by John Shorts
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
Silver Sparrow by Tayari Jones
The Last Time I Saw Paris by Lynn Sheene
The 2011 Indie Lit Award shortlists were announced this weekend, and I can't wait to start reading the titles that made the fiction shortlist (for which I am a judge this year). It has everything I look for in a shortlist: a book I've read (The Night Circus), a couple of titles I've been meaning to get to (Cross Currents and Silver Sparrow), and two titles that are new to me (Dance Lessons and The Last Time I Saw Paris.) There's an impressive variety of settings in these novels: Scotland, Thailand, just about everywhere, Atlanta and Paris. I'll be reading these titles over the next two months and discussing their merits with my fellow judges. I won't be posting reviews on these titles until the winner and runner-up are announced in mid-March.
Now tell me: which title are you most excited to see on this year's shortlist?
The shortlists for the other categories are available on the Indie Lit Awards web site.

Oh, I loved The Night Circus, and need to get to Cross Currents soon. I am going to have to add these others to my list as well, seeing as they are finalists! Great post today!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see Tarayi Jones on there of course. I haven't heard too much about Dance Lessons but have heard it's good. I may have to attempt these... The Night Circus was on my TBR anyway.
ReplyDeleteI am most interesting in Dance Lessons since it was a title I had never heard of prior to the nominations.
ReplyDeleteI really need to read The Night Circus. I'm just worried my expectations are too high.
ReplyDeleteNice list -- can't wait to see what you think of them. I've passed on Cross Currents but regret it now -- it gets rave reviews from everyone who's read it!
ReplyDeleteWell I've read one of them so that's a start at least!
ReplyDeleteI'm most excited about Silver Sparrow being on that list! It was such a juicy book.
ReplyDeleteSuper excited to see The Night Circus. And besides that, I see a lot I need to read!
ReplyDeleteSomehow I'm not surprised to see the Night Circus on the list with all the buzz it's received lately. Sadly I haven't heard of many of the others, though!
ReplyDeleteI am excited to see Dance Lessons on there - I read and reviewed it last year and loved it! It is nice to see it get some exposure through the Indie Lit Awards and I hope it allows it to be discovered by more people.
