The Sunday Salon: Explaining my absence

Despite the best of intentions of scheduling blog posts before leaving town to get married and quasi-honeymoon, it just didn't happen. Also despite my best intentions, I didn't get much reading during my lovely, long wedding weekend, and I still haven't finished Committed by Elizabeth Gilbert, which is perhaps one of the most perfect books to read the week before your wedding, especially if you're one of those people who did not dream of marriage and is still sometimes surprised to actually be married. I've discovered it's still a delightful book to read during the first week of one's marriage when you contemplate what exactly is different about married life than engaged life or pre-engagement life. What is different? So far, not much, but we also had four years, four states, and promises to live our lives together before we decided to let the government sanction our love. Regardless, we got married in a library, and it was wonderful. As soon as I find the pesky cable to connect the camera to the computer, there will be pictures!
Committed: A Skeptic Makes Peace with Marriage

This week, look for more movie reviews (it's Oscar season!), even a few book reviews (it's been a slow year for reading books so far, but I am ridiculously well informed now that I spend at least an hour a day (and 2-3 on Sunday) reading the New York Times on my Kindle. I have some fantastic and awesome ARCs for review in the coming month, and I cannot wait to start reading them.

City of Refuge: A Novel (P.S.)

Finally, I was one of the lucky winners of City of Refuge by Tom Piazza for Tuesday night's That's How I Blog with Jen at Devourer of Books. Nicole from Linus's Blanket hosts this fabulous show, and if you haven't listened before, you really should. The show begins at 8:30 p.m. Eastern. My class schedule this semester actually lets me listen live (now that the wedding fun is past), and I'm hoping and planning to have the book finished by Tuesday night so I can not only listen to the twenty minute book club at the end of the show, but also call in!

As an Amazon associate, I will receive a small commission if you make a purchase through any of the above links. Thanks for your help!

  4. Congratulations on your wedding! Who could blame you for enjoying your honeymoon instead of reading? ;) I have found that very little is actually different about being married versus before (it's only been about four months for us) but I like it anyway. It's still a little strange to think that we're actually married!
